If you’re heading to Disneyland this fall, your arrival routine just changed. With Eastern Gateway construction now visibly underway – the old East Esplanade ticket booths are already rubble – Disney confirmed this week that the security checkpoint is moving closer to the turnstiles, and rideshare and bus drop-offs are relocating to the far side of the resort (per Disney Tourist Blog’s September 22 rundown). Translation: the way you’ve always entered Disneyland is not the way you’ll enter it this season.
What’s actually different
Three things matter for a real trip. First, the east-side security funnel is being rebuilt – expect rerouted queues and shifting temp walls in the Esplanade, with the checkpoint landing closer to the gates. Second, if you arrive by Uber, Lyft, or hotel shuttle, your drop-off point is moving, which changes which entrance logic applies to you. Third, this is multi-month work: fall visits are all inside the construction window.
The arrival playbook, updated
Build in fifteen extra minutes. Not because the new setup is slow – because any rerouted funnel has confused first-day traffic, and you don’t want your rope drop eaten by a detour you didn’t know existed. Rope droppers: the whole point of arriving early is walking on headliners, and that only works if the security shuffle doesn’t catch you.
If you’re ridesharing, confirm the drop-off pin in the app before you get in the car – and know that the walk from the relocated drop-off is longer than the old Harbor-side stroll. Comfortable shoes were already the rule; now they’re the law. Hotel-shuttle people: ask your front desk which stop they’re using this month, because the answer changed.
The upside nobody’s talking about
Construction seasons are crowd-management gifts. The same project that scrambles arrivals also scares off the casual visitor – historically, big Disneyland construction windows mean marginally softer attendance. If you can handle a little wayfinding, this fall’s park days come with shorter lines than the calendar suggests.
Change is annoying for one visit and invisible forever after. Learn the new arrival once, and you’ll never think about it again.
