Rove vs Bilt, one year in: Copa transfers widen the no-card case

Rove has added another transfer partner, and this one changes the geography of what Rove miles can do. As of the announcement on Rove’s own blog, Rove Miles now transfer 1:1 to Copa Airlines ConnectMiles. (The launch came with a 40% transfer bonus – 1,000 Rove Miles became 1,400 ConnectMiles – which runs through September 30, 2026. The partner addition is the lasting news.)

Copa is a bigger deal than its name recognition in the US suggests. The airline flies to more than 80 destinations across the Americas from its Panama City hub, and because it’s a Star Alliance member, ConnectMiles can reach partner award space well beyond Copa’s own route map. For anyone sitting on Rove miles and eyeing Central America, South America, or the Caribbean, this is a new door that didn’t exist in August.

Why this matters in the Rove vs Bilt comparison

I’ve covered the Rove-versus-Bilt question twice this year – once in January when both were new-ish, and again in July when the June terms settled who actually earns what. The core distinction hasn’t moved: Bilt earns on rent with a card, Rove earns on travel and everyday spending without one. What keeps changing is what each side’s miles can become.

Copa ConnectMiles is the latest move on Rove’s side of the board, and the pattern is the story. Rove’s transfer-partner list keeps growing in directions that matter for actual trips – especially international ones – while the earn side stays free to join. Every new partner raises the floor on what a casually accumulated balance can do, because transfer partners are where points stop being funny money and start being flights.

Should you transfer to ConnectMiles?

The usual rule applies, and it’s worth repeating: transfer with a trip in mind, not a balance to park. A launch bonus like September’s 40% offer is real value only while it’s running – and only if ConnectMiles award space exists for the trip you actually want to take. Search the specific route and dates first – Copa publishes award availability through its own site and Star Alliance partners show up in the usual search tools – and only then move the miles. Transfers are one-way.

If you don’t have a Latin America trip on the horizon, the news is still worth something: it’s a signal about where Rove is headed. Each partner added makes the program more useful as a parking spot for spend you’d earn on anyway, and it strengthens the case that the no-card option isn’t the compromise it looked like a year ago.
